Q1. Can freshly roasted coffee beans be consumed immediately?
Brewing coffee right after roasting results in an energetic cup but may lead to under-extraction. This can cause the coffee to have a bright flavor but lack depth, with sharp acidity and insufficient sweetness. The flavors may also be less stable, and the true potential of the coffee beans may not be fully realized. Therefore, it is not recommended to drink coffee immediately after roasting.
Q2. When is the best time to drink freshly roasted coffee beans?
RIAS seals the freshly roasted coffee beans in aluminum foil bags with one-way valves. The optimal consumption period is between 4-5 days and up to 2 months after the beans have been rested. If you prefer to brew intense espresso, it is generally recommended to wait for 20 days to allow the beans to degas before brewing. However, the storage time required may vary depending on the coffee variety and roasting method. Generally, once the coffee beans delivered to customers' homes are opened, they can be consumed immediately.
Q3. What is the relationship between coffee flavors and personal preferences?
Coffee beans from different regions and farms have their unique flavors, influenced by factors such as altitude, variety, soil, rainfall, sunlight, and processing methods. Each coffee has its own distinct characteristics, and whether one likes it or not depends on individual subjective taste and preferences. Customers can choose based on their personal preferences.
Q4. What is personal preferences and roast levels?
To maximize the flavor potential and showcase the unique characteristics of the beans from different origins, RIAS conducts multiple roasting and cupping tests to determine the optimal roast curves for coffee beans sourced from around the world. Each coffee bean undergoes careful scientific testing and equipment verification to calculate the degree of roasting on the bean surface and core. Generally, light to medium-light roasts exhibit fruity notes, acidity, and a clean mouthfeel, while dark roasts have nutty, caramel, and cocoa flavors with a rich and full-bodied taste. Medium roasts fall somewhere in between, offering both the sweetness of ripe dried fruits and the smoothness of caramel.
About roast level and brewing:
Any roast level is suitable for manual brewing.
Medium-dark to dark roasts are recommended for intense espresso.
If you are using a high-end espresso machine, medium roasts can also be used.
Q5. How does brewing method affect coffee flavors?
The flavor of roasted coffee beans is influenced by the brewing method, resulting in different taste profiles. We encourage customers to try various brewing methods and adjust the water-to-coffee ratio, grind size, and brewing time to find their preferred brewing method.
Q6. How to maintain the freshness of coffee beans?
RIAS provides freshly roasted coffee bean services and recommends consuming the roasted coffee beans within two months of purchase to maintain freshness. The flavor of coffee beans will diminish over time if stored for too long.
Q7. How to properly store coffee beans?
After roasting, please continue storing the coffee beans in RIAS' packaging with the one-way valve, avoiding sunlight, high temperatures, and humidity, as they can accelerate the oxidation and loss of flavors. If you need to pre-grind the coffee beans, cover the one-way valve with adhesive tape and double-seal the ground coffee in another airtight bag before storing it in the refrigerator at 4 degrees Celsius. Only bring out the necessary amount for brewing, while keeping the rest refrigerated.
